Odd Bedfellows for Japan Relief Album (Lennon, Dylan, Bieber, Lady Gaga...)

The Atlantic is reporting that a charity album is being released to benefit the Red Cross relief efforts in Japan, in the aftermath of the earthquake. The album includes an assortment of songs from a wide, wide, variety of artists, including: Bob Dylan, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga U2, Katy Perry, Elton John, and R.E.M.. The 38 track album is available now on iTunes.

I of course support the effort, applaud the artists for allowing the songs on the album without royalties, and encourage people to help the people of Japan. However, like the Atlantic, I am a bit disappointed that the collection, though large, includes no new recordings (they did include new tracks for the similar Haiti albums). The only exception seems to be a new remix from Lady Gaga of her new hit "Born this Way."
